How Are Your Sessions Structured?

The first session is 1½ hours which is mostly counselling. This is so Carolyn can find out your background, details and a good understanding of your issues etc. If you are interested in hypnotherapy she does a 20 - 25 minutes high level hypnotherapy to give you the experience of hypnosis but does no go any deeper work at this first session

Subsequent sessions are 1 hour consisting of a combination of counselling and hypnotherapy (depending on your requirements). These sessions go deeper and are where Carolyn uses the Hypnotherapy techniques.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

It is very hard to put an estimate on how long the therapy would take but typically most issues can be solved in 4 to 8 sessions. This obviously depends on the situation, issue and what the underlying causes of the issues are.In order that no-one has to be kept on a waiting list too long, we offer short-term work; what is called a "time-conscious" service. This means, in practice, that you will discuss with your therapist how many sessions might be appropriate for you. Usually the therapist likes to review the situation at around the fourth session.

What is Your Free Initial Consultation?

This is an obligation free, 30 minute session where you can discuss your issues with Carolyn and she can answer any questions that you may have regarding hypnotherapy, counselling and the therapy process. This session is best for people who are undecided or unsure if they want to got ahead with therapy. Alternatively, Carolyn is happy to answer any questions you may have over the phone. Most people find that she can answer their questions in a 10 minute phone call and prefer to go straight into the therapy sessions.

When Might My Therapist Talk To Someone About Me?

There are three different answers to this question -

1. At your specific request. Sometimes a client asks to have some information passed on to someone else, and a therapist may help with this.

2. When someone is at risk of actual harm. A therapist will obtain permission from you to contact someone if you give the counsellor information which suggests that you, or another person, is at risk of actual harm.

3. In supervision. As a requirement of their profession, all therapist have supervision. They discuss their work with their supervisor. Supervisors are required to maintain the confidentiality, and, since the supervision is focussed on the work of therapist counsellor, she or he does not have to identify you to their supervisor.
